Why is leather so fragile in the rain, isn't skin waterproof, or at the very least water resistant?

Would you believe there are people out there (adults) who actually don't know where leather comes from, as if its some type of mystery fabric...

Almost everyone has met someone (or sadly may be one) who professes (proudly I might add) that they don't read...as if this is some sort of badge honor...translation, "I'm a moron..."

For the most part most every person most people meet will ever meet will be a colossal disappointment as a person...
